Bernkastel-Kues and Traben-Trarbach

If you descend the slopes of the Hunsrück, you will end up in one of the most beautiful landscapes in the region: Experience the Mosel river valley with its sun-drenched slopes lined with vineyards. There are many romantic small towns along the river waiting to be discovered. Two particularly beautiful towns / villages are Bernkastel-Kues and Traben-Trarbach. Both can be reached within 30 minutes from the holiday home. Traben-Trarbach captivates with its beautiful Art Nouveau villas lining the riverfront and Bernkastel-Kues has a beautiful old town with well-preserved tudor style houses.

Idar-Oberstein and Saarbrücken

In the other direction, you will find Idar-Oberstein, known for its gem cutting and precious stones. A little further away in Saarland, you'll find the state capital Saarbrücken. Idar-Oberstein's tradition of gem cutting goes back centuries. Saarbrücken is the capital of the state of Saarland and offers the amenities of a small city, including many museums, galleries, and theatres. The city also features several lavishly designed parks and gardens.

Trier and Luxemburg

We recommend going to the ancient Roman city of Trier and crossing the nearby border into the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. In Trier, the oldest city in Germany, the heritage of the Romans is still alive. The Porta Nigra is the oldest city gate in all of Germany, and remains almost completely intact in the middle of the city. There are many other UNESCO World Heritage Sites to discover, such as the Constantine Basilica, the Imperial Baths, and much more. A stark contrast to the ancient buildings in Trier can be found in the small Grand Duchy of Luxembourg with its modern glass buildings housing companies in the financial sector. The city of Luxembourg attaches particular importance to its culture. There are many museums, events, and a distinctive nightlife here as well to enjoy.
